So, About That Wall….
I’m kinda getting sick of the back and forth on the border wall. The republicans want the border wall because it will help secure our southern border. The democrats don’t want a border wall because they say it’s too expensive or impractical and we should just hire more border guards. I’m a huge fan of border security, and I think that we should secure both borders. I think that should start with the southern border though.
This government shutdown has kinda turned into a crazy sideshow of pointing fingers back and forth saying one side doesn’t care about the workers that are stuck without jobs, and the other side actually proving that they don’t. The republicans have tried on several different occasions to work to come up with a compromise to have the border wall and security with border patrol agents etc that the democrats wanted.
Last week, house republicans even voted to allow pay government employees affected by the shutdown even though the government is shut down (source). Only 6 democrats voted in favor of this motion. The democrats complain that republicans don’t care about the federal employees, but they’ve constantly shot down so many different budget resolutions. They refuse to give up less than 1% of the total federal budget to help with the border wall, and they’d get everything else they’ve been crying about for the last 2 years…
This shutdown has literally turned into a pissing contest to see who buckles first and only one side is actually holding federal employees wages hostage at this point. I want to see some compromise. The republicans have reduced the amount they’ve asked for for the wall on multiple occasions down to this final 5.7 billion, this is their rock bottom. Democrats, you need to step up.
Before you comment or tweet me, I am not against immigration. I am against illegal immigration. You should come here through the process my ancestors did, my friends did, and so many other people here did. If you need asylum, apply for such at an embassy. When you swarm our border, you’re only proving that we need the wall, not the opposite…
I try not to be partisan, I try to stay in the center politically, but the divide over the last 2 years have literally pushed me further and further to the right. Sure, I hold some left ideologies, and some right. I’m sure the more I write, the more you’ll understand where I am coming from on all sorts of different political issues.
